Overview

Creative New Zealand is New Zealand’s national agency for developing the arts. The Creative Communities Scheme (CCS) is one of the ways Creative New Zealand fund a broad range of arts projects in local communities.

The Creative Communities Scheme is a partnership between Creative New Zealand (the national arts development agency) and local councils in New Zealand. The scheme promotes community involvement, diversity and young people participating in the arts. Tauranga City Council delivers the local scheme.

Updated information effective from July 1st 2025

To ensure the local scheme promotes a wide range of arts projects, please note the additional guidelines below:  

  • Priority will be given to local Tauranga individuals/ organisations.
  • Priority will be given to Applicants who have not received CCS funding in the last twelve months.
  • Only one application per individual/ organisation per round will be accepted.
  • The project must not have started before funding is approved.
  • The project must be completed within a year of funding being approved. Please contact us if your project is delayed.
  • Accountability reports must be submitted within two months of the project being completed. If you have already received funding from the Creative Communities Scheme for a project, you must submit the accountability form ( sent via Smarty Grants) before making another application.
  • A summary of successful projects will be published on the Tauranga City Council website.

The personal information Tauranga City Council collects may include your name, addresses, email address, telephone numbers, information on your use of our services or facilities and any other information provided by you in connection with, or specifically related to your communications with us or, your use of our services or facilities.   • We may collect personal information about you from other organisations, entities or persons.

  • Our internet service providers may also make a record of your visit and log information for statistical purposes. This information is only analysed on a bulk basis for broad demographic content.
